Dr. Sayeed Ghani

Professor, Faculty of Computer Science

Dr. Sayeed Ghani has a B.S. from MIT (1984) and M.S. and Ph.D from Columbia University in Electrical Engineering (1986 and 1990). His field of interest has been in applications of AI and Machine Learning, Wireless Sensor Networks and IOT. Dr. Ghani will be joining University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill from July 2022 as Teaching Associate Professor. In the past he has been Professor and Associate Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science at IBA, and also served as a member of the Board of Governors of IBA, and as interim Acting Dean & Director/Executive Director in 2016 and 2020 respectively. He has over 12 years of industry experience prior to joining IBA in 2001 as Chairman of the Center for Computer Studies.

Dr. Ghani has worked as a Member of Technical Staff at NYNEX Science & Technology (NYNEX became part of Verizon Communications) in the US, where he was heavily involved in the Standards process of high-speed voice and data services. He has also been employed as IT Head for ABN AMRO Bank and State Life Insurance Corporation of Pakistan. Dr. Ghani has been a pioneer in introducing VSAT and Internet services in Pakistan and has been involved in various software development projects throughout his career. He has also worked at GTE Labs (now Verizon LTE Innovation Center) and the MIT Laboratory for Computer Science (now MIT CS & AI Lab) in the US and Unilever in Pakistan. Dr. Ghani has a number of publications in leading IEEE journals and conferences and has presented papers and conducted seminars in various forums in both the US and Pakistan. His current research interests at IBA include simulation and performance analysis of networks and Wireless Sensor Networks, Internet of Things, and applications of Machine Learning in Wireless Networks. He is presently also supervising five PhD students.
